the session concentrated on the saddle position and 50/50 with some defence and transitions to 80/20 and 90/10. Entries was included in the session was concluded with a review and Q & A session.

Some rolls were had with some new friends made from visiting gyms and all enjoyed the session.

The Great Escapes

another fantastic seminar from John B Will. Topic was escapes. We covered escapes and side control and mount. Some great nuances and adjustments from the “White belt” or first look of the technique through another lense.

Having the opportunity to train and catch up with friends as well as learn from one of the best martial arts coaches we have in Australia is what martial arts is all about. Learning and building relationships that have meaning on the mats flows off the mats. Taking it to the outside world is where we need to take our learning after all.

Thanks to Trav and all the team for organising the seminar. Thanks to my training partner Benny Turnbull for the nights training.  Thanks to my crew Scotty and Mark for coming along. And of course to John for conducting a great seminar as always.

See you on the mats

2018 Wrap Up

It’s been a huge year at Goulburn Martial Arts Academy!

The year started off with The CHITF SGM Phap Lu Seminar with a number of members attending.  The seminar was a huge success with all the members gaining a deeper knowledge of TaeKwonDo. It was also a great opportunity to meet new friends and we were also treated with a wonderful presentation of the CHITF World Championships Melbourne 2019.

Through  out the year we were asked to assist in a number of community events with demonstrations. We assisted fundraising for the cancer council, with relay for life ball and relay for life event.

We had a number of competitors challenge themselves at competitions through TaeKwonDo, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.

We have enjoyed a number of new members at the academy and have watched them develop into martial artists.

We have had our most successful year in way of gradings with new black belts in the TaeKwonDo ranks, and our largest bjj coloured belt grading to date.

I look forward to see what 2019 has to offer for our club. As we turn our direction to teaching new members in martial arts, successful competitions and new levels of understanding.

See you on the mats.

John B Will Seminar "Houdini Escapes"

john will.jpg

Last night we were able to enjoy having one of the worlds best BJJ instructors on our mats. John who also is the principle instructor for Will/Machado (Affiliation). Our seminar was based on escapes. We looked at mount , side control, switch base, and knee ride escapes. Although as most people would say they are fundamental or essential movements, details and nuances over time continue to develop a bullet proof escapes game. Bullet proof confidence leads to the ability to attack at will, which in itself “the best defence is a good offence”.

Brown Belt Promotion

So Friday the 24th August  I received my BJJ Brown Belt from John B Will/Danny Weir I would like to thanks everyone along the journey who has helped me along the way. My wife and family for putting up with my martial obsession, without your support nothing is possible. I first met JOHN at David Suker’s gym (he was promoted to purple that night, now a black belt) and JOHN invited me attend his DCAT course where I met Danny, well since then they both have encouraged and coached me along the way, seminars, comps etc. with Danny’s encouragement I started the gym in Goulburn and affiliated to Will/Machado years ago. I now enjoy many friendships because of that decision and cherish them all@and the journey. Thanks to all my team mates in particularly @bumper__f @floopmadman who pretty much have been with me since the inception of bjj at our club. Without you all my journey would have been a lot harder. Thanks to all my members your support and friendship is why the grind is so enjoyable. Many thanks and see you on the mats #willmachado #rcjmachado #brazilianjiujitsu #jits #teamgmaa #gmaa #jitslife #willmachado

JDC extends his record to 2-2

Joel recently visited the city of churches. Adelaide played host to Diamondback FC where Joel was able to get back into the cage after an extended lay off. Joel was able to come home with his first ever win via submission with a slick performance finishing in guillotine.

congratulations Joel and all the team mates and coaching staff at GMAA... let’s go champ!

Hi Everyone

Term starts tomorrow with normal timetable.

We have a new attendance system, we will have a tablet on the bench as you walk in. all you need to do is scroll and find your or your child's names and, click and it will enter your into the class.

This will allow me to keep track of how many classes you have had prior to grading.

I will also need a photo of each member for the system.

cheers
